Born and raised in New York, I am a first-generation Mexican-American artist who holds an MFA from Hunter College. My practice investigates transience, community, and belonging by exploring
urban landscapes through both micro and macro lenses. By highlighting the mundane and overlooked details of environments, my paintings capture the simultaneous absence and presence of la comunidad. These visual narratives reference my local neighborhood of East Harlem, as well as locations abroad that shaped my upbringing. Through fragmenting and obscuring scenes, I offer viewers entry points into spaces that feel both intimately familiar and ambiguous. Utilizing a tactile palette of fiber paste, acrylic, and gouache, I build layered textures that mimic diverse urban surfaces, using expressive painting techniques to manipulate perception.
